The Nita Townsend Collection

Nita Townsend was one of Ludham’s oldest residents living to be over 100 years old. For much of her life, Nita lived at Red Roofs farm which is
just over the border in Potter Heigham.
One day, Nita told the Ludham Archive that she had a collection of old photographs which she no longer wanted and she would be happy to add to
the Archive collection. What we actually got was a large box of negatives and no positive prints. So we scanned all the negatives and these
became the Nita Townsend collection. We had a lot of trouble deciding if we had printed the negatives the right way round as you can view them
from either side. We spent a lot of time looking for clues like numbers or the side people buttoned their coats. We think we have got most of them
right now.
Unfortunately, by this time, Nita had gone blind and was unable to tell us anything about the pictures and because she had outlived everyone else
we had very little to go on. However, despite Nita insisting that they were just ordinary family snaps, the pictures are fantastic quality and show a
life that has all but vanished.
So, here is a selection from the Nita Townsend Collection. We hope you enjoy the pictures. Just click on them to see a larger version.
