The
Surname "Slipper" is a common one in the area
surrounding Ludham. Here is some family tree
information about the Slippers of Ludham.
Below is a family tree showing the descendants of John
Slipper of Great Yarmouth. Being handwritten and quite
a large tree, it can be a bit difficult to read, but
it is a useful document. Click

read.

Thomas
Slipper the younger was born in 1837 in Stalham. He
became a farmer and landowner in Ludham. He married
Mary Ann Gooch Littlewood (sometimes known as
Marianne) in 1862. They lived at Fritton House
(Fritton Farm) in Ludham before moving to Braydeston
Hall near Blofield. Their children John, Tom and Fred
emigrated to the USA and became founding fathers of
the town on Hamilton in Washington State. Fred
Slipper's former home is now a museum.
Thomas Slipper the younger died at Braydeston Hall in
1903.
You
can find details of the adventures of Thomas' children
in the USA on this
link.
This information was provided by Fred's Great Great
Granddaughter who is researching the family tree.
Here is some more information from another family
member in the USA:
I want to add to the excellent information my
cousin has sent to you. Thomas Slipper's family
of Nine offspring included my grandfather, Frederic
Gooch Slipper. He & his elder brother John
Haddon Slipper joined two uncles who had emigrated
previously. In 1893 Thomas visited. They enjoyed
the large National Fair in Chicago. Before
returning home, Thomas & his brother Haddon toured
a bit by Train. On a trip to Norfolk I went to
the Archive which houses family treasure.
Among other items brought down, I could see the Travel
Journal he kept. As a farmer he viewed the
fields, judging Norfolk's better.
Of the nine, 3 sons emigrated & the 2 reaming in
England were bachelors. Three daughters married;
their last names became Webb, Wansborough-Jones &
Chamberlain. One daughter died in young
adulthood. So no 'Slippers' in England. I
have a photograph of the 9, plus 3 dogs, taken at
Braydeston & Thomas had 5 paintings of Braydeston
painted for the sons, I grew up with my
grandfather's painting over the living room fireplace
in Hamilton.
The eldest Slipper male in each generation was always
Thomas. My Uncle Frederick Ward was 9 years
younger than my mother Lorna Elizabeth. Lorna
made her only visit to England in 1929 following her
graduation from the University of Washington, but she
kept up correspondence with the relatives she had met
all her life. During WWII she supported them
with packages. I 'inherited' that
correspondence, & finally met them on my first
trip there in the late1970s.
