Memories of Eric Edwards MBE
(Eric the Marshman)

Filmed in March 2004 by Ralph Thompson.

Eric was a well known Ludham character who worked at How Hill cutting reed and sedge. He gave lots of demonstrations about the work of a Marshman and was much in demand for talks.

Eric loved to talk about his life and was well known for appearing on film and television demonstrating his craft. He appeared several times on the TV show "The Generation Game" setting the contestants the task of stacking and bundling reed which he made look easy but it was actually a lot harder than it looked.

He had a collection of Marshman's tools which he would often display at How Hill.

In this film we see Eric doing what he did best, cutting reed at How Hill. Of course, he could not resist demonstrating the special simple tools he used for the job.
